There are some days when you just need a little extra boost of self-care.
Healthy habits and routines should be something you’re frequently incorporating into your life, but on days when you need an extra pick-me-up, why not treat yourself to some extra self-care?
Self-care can look like many different things – it’s not just long baths and facials!
I purposely kept this list short so that you’re not overwhelmed with different choices. If any of these ideas sound fun to you, or if they spark an idea of another activity that would be a treat for your soul, do it!
Here are 6 unique self-care ideas you can do TODAY:
1. Eat breakfast outside.
Morning air feels oh-so-good, and food just tastes better when you’re outside. Getting outside early in the day will help wake you up, start feeling the sun, and help you be more energized. Plus, it always makes me feel like I’m on vacation.
If you miss breakfast, try eating dinner outside while you watch the sunset!
2. Turn your phone off for an hour.
Give yourself an hour off from the distractions and buzzing of your phone.
Don’t worry about people texting you or emailing you. They can wait for an hour, and you will feel so free in the meantime.
3. Buy yourself flowers.
Then spend a full five minutes smelling them (or whatever amount of time you don’t think is weird…). Smelling flowers forces you to breathe deeply through your nose, which, well, you know how good breathing is for you!
Plus, they smell amazing and they brighten up any space you’re in.
4. Walk through the grass barefoot.
This is called “getting grounded.” It’s a great way to connect with the earth and feel young again.
Pay attention to the cool ground and tickly grass between your toes while you take a few deep breaths.
5. Have a solo dance party or lip-syncing fest.
Shut yourself in the bathroom if you need some privacy. Put on a boppin’ song that you adore – maybe one you loved when you were a teenager – and pretend you’re a rock star.
6. Play with kinetic sand.
You know that squishy, moldable sand that kids play with? Well, who says it’s just for kids?
Squishing and squeezing kinetic sand in your hands is a great sensory activity, and it can be quite calming too.
Put on some soothing music or wave sounds and spend a few minutes raking your fingers through the soft sand (you can even pretend you’re at the beach).
Here’s how to make some DIY kinetic sand with ingredients from your pantry.
Did you see anything on this list that stood out to you? If you did, choose one and try it out!
Hopefully, this list also got you thinking of other things that sound good to your soul. If anything came to mind that made you think, “Oh, that would be fun,” then make time to do it. You deserve it!
Best of luck!
