Is it possible to make money as a new blogger in 2024?

It can be discouraging to be a new blogger in 2024. Sometimes it seems like all the really successful, six-figure bloggers started blogging all the way back in 2011…

Are you too late to the game if you start a blog in 2024? Is it still possible to make money as a blogger?

Here’s the answer:

As long as there are people who turn to the Internet for help with their problems: YES, you can make money blogging… even as a new blogger!

(And in case you’re wondering, there are definitely people looking to solve their problem with the Internet’s help in 2024!)

The most successful blogs all have one thing in common, and this is the quality that you have to nail down in order to make money as a blogger in 2024.

Here it is:

You need to provide value to the reader by solving a problem they have.

Everything you offer on your blog should provide some sort of value for your readers. It should help them with their problems. 

In fact, it should help them so much that they’re willing to make a purchase to get more solutions to their problems.

So, when you’re making a plan to earn money blogging, think about this: 

What’s something you could provide that solves a problem for your readers?

I’ll give you a little cheat sheet – here are the 3 biggest problems that most people are searching for solutions to:

1. They want to have more money.
2. They want to save time.
3. They want to feel better.

If you can provide a solution to one or more of those problems, you will have customers.

Your job is to convince your reader why your solution is a good one, without being pushy. 

You want to explain things so clearly that people think, “Yes! That is exactly what I need! Take my money!!”

And the three best outlets to actually solve people’s problems as a new blogger? Let’s take a look at each of them.

The 3 best ways to make money blogging in 2024:

1. Affiliate Marketing

In my opinion, affiliate marketing is the easiest way to make money as a new blogger. 

In case you don’t know what this is, it’s simply when you promote someone else’s product, and then you get a commission if a customer makes a purchase from your unique referral link.

The best thing is, you don’t need a lot of page views to make money with affiliate marketing – you just need to connect the right kinds of viewers to products that will provide value to them. 

Remember what I said before about being able to solve a problem? As a new blogger, you need to promote things that solve a problem for your reader, and help them to see how it will provide that solution.

Maybe your readers don’t realize they have a problem, or maybe it’s not clear that what you’re promoting is the solution.

You may have to spell it out for them (without being pushy, of course!).

To tell the truth, I didn’t start making money from affiliate marketing right away as a new blogger, because I didn’t know the best way to go about finding and promoting affiliate products.

After taking a course called Making Sense of Affiliate Marketing, things became so much easier. Michelle, the creator of the course, taught me principles of affiliate marketing that I never would have thought of. (Which makes sense, because she’s a pro – she makes over $50,000 a month from affiliate marketing alone.)

Instead of wasting months of time with trial and error, or possibly making a legal mistake and losing the chance to be an affiliate for certain products, I knew the basics and some pro steps right off the bat.

In a nutshell, the problem I had was this: I didn’t know how to utilize effective affiliate marketing strategies on my blog, so I wasn’t making money.

The solution: Michelle taught me ultra-effective affiliate marketing strategies, the same ones she used to make over $5 million dollars on her blog.

If you haven’t implemented affiliate marketing on your new blog yet, I highly recommend doing so!

2. Digital Products

Another way you can make money as a new blogger is by selling digital products, like an ebook, an online course, or printables. 

This involves more work than promoting someone else’s product, because you have to create the product yourself, then promote it.

Luckily, the great thing about digital products is that you only have to create it once and then can sell it over and over without any extra work (AKA passive income!). So, it’s still a super great option.

As you decide what digital products you want to create, remember that every product you sell should provide value and solve a problem for your readers.

An example of a digital product is my mini-course, Take Control of Your Phone.

This course provides value to my customers because it saves them hours of time they would normally spend wasting on their phone, which they can then spend doing more things they love, spending time with their families, or working on side hustles that can earn them thousands of dollars a month. 

In a nutshell, the problem I’m solving is this: A lot of people, and especially solopreneurs or working women, feel like their phone use has gotten out of control. They want to feel like they have control over the phone, not the other way around, so they can stop wasting time mindlessly scrolling.

The solution: In this course, they can learn strategies to take control of their phone, breaking their old habits surrounding their phone use and establishing new ones. That way, they only use their phones when they want to…. and reclaim 1-4 hours of time a day.

Take some time to brainstorm: what digital product could you create that would solve a problem for your readers?

3. Freelance Services

The third way to make money as a new blogger is to offer a service – and this is where most of the money I make as a new blogger comes from. In my case, the services I offer are editing and proofreading.

As an editor, I help authors, bloggers, and entrepreneurs make sure their writing is clear, easy to read, and error-free. It’s a great job for me, because I love grammar. 

Plus, it provides great value to writers.

Here’s the problem I’m tackling: Writers are full of good ideas, but if their writing isn’t clear, readers won’t understand and won’t take action. Plus, errors and typos in writing can hurt authors’ credibility.

Here’s the solution: I can help writers get their ideas across clearly and ensure that their writing is easy to read and free of typos and grammar mistakes. This gives writers the greatest chance to make sure their readers convert to customers.

When you consider what services you can offer on your new blog, think about things you’re good at that could solve a problem for someone else.

Can you help someone 1) make or save extra money, 2) save time, or 3) feel better?

Yes, you absolutely can! The best ways to start making money fast as a blogger are to utilize affiliate marketing, sell digital products, and offer a service.

As long as the things you’re offering to your readers provide value and solve a problem (and you can clearly convince your reader how you’re solving the problem), you can make money by blogging, even if you don’t have a ton of viewers.

I always want my blog posts to be actionable, so here are some simple steps you can take to start making money as a new blogger:

1. Brainstorm what problems your readers might be having.
2. For each problem you come up with, think of an idea for 1) an affiliate product, 2) a digital product, and 3) a service that you could provide that would solve that problem.
3. Choose 2 or 3 that you could offer on your blog. If it’s a digital product, create it.
4. Write 4 or 5 blog posts promoting each offer of yours. These blog posts should be helpful on their own, plus they should clearly spell out why the offer you’re promoting is even more helpful.
5. As you start to make money, gradually add more affiliate offers, digital products, and services.
